Gérald Darmanin, the French Minister of the Interior, has assured that the means to ensure the security of the 2024 Olympics and its opening ceremony on the Seine in Paris will be “greatly increased” compared to those mobilized for the Rugby World Cup. “We will be perfectly ready,” he insisted.
During a visit to the Saint-Denis police station, where the Olympic Stadium is located in the northern suburbs of Paris, Darmanin stated that “the Ministry of the Interior will be ready to organize the opening ceremony and ensure the security of spectators and teams.” He emphasized that they will be fully prepared for the Paris Games from July 26th to August 11th.
Darmanin praised the security organization of the Rugby World Cup, highlighting that “11,000” members of the security forces and “approximately 3,000 municipal police officers” were mobilized “every day.” He also mentioned that there were “4,880 anti-crime operations in two months, averaging more than 80 per day, resulting in 781 arrests.” Additionally, he pointed out that they neutralized “around twenty malicious drones.”
