Samyang Introduces Fast Universal Zoom for Sony Cameras

Fast universal zoom for Sony cameras from Samyang

The Samyang AF 35-150 f/2.0-2.8 FE is a zoom lens that covers a range of focal lengths from 35 to 150 millimeters, making it suitable for a variety of different subjects. At 35 millimeters, it can be used for street and reportage photography, while 50 millimeters is a universal focal length that can be used in many situations. For aesthetic portrait shots, 85 millimeters is ideal, while longer focal lengths are suitable for detail shots. With a close-up limit of 33 centimeters in the wide-angle range and 85 centimeters in the telephoto range, close-ups are also possible throughout the zoom range.

To prevent unwanted focal length adjustments, the lens features a locking switch on the housing that fixes the selected zoom position. Additionally, it has a wide open aperture of f/2.0 at 35 millimeters and f/2.8 at 150 millimeters, which enables a high exposure potential and short exposure times even in adverse lighting conditions. The lens has nine aperture blades designed to make the blur soft and natural.

The lens construction consists of 21 optical elements in 18 groups, including two aspherical lenses and ten other special lenses, which ensure high imaging performance with high contrast and minimized errors such as ghost images and color fringes. The lens features seals in twelve places to protect the inner workings against dust, light rain, and snow.

A linear stepping motor is responsible for auto focus, which works with Sony’s Fast Hybrid AF and Eye AF and supports camera lens corrections for color fringing, vignetting, and distortion. The lens has two “Focus Hold Buttons” on the lens barrel that save the current focus position when pressed for a long time in manual mode, and focus on this position when the button is pressed briefly.

The Samyang AF 35-150 f/2.0-2.8 FE also offers storage options for focus points and custom functions, which can be imported via an optional dock. During video recording, the auto focus speed is regulated to minimize fluctuations and create a uniform image impression without focus jumps. The focus ring has a turning resistance similar to a manual lens, offering familiar handling when shooting with manual focus. The lens maintains focus when zooming, meaning the focal length can be changed during video recording without having to refocus.

The Samyang AF 35-150 f/2.0-2.8 FE Sony E lens is available for pre-order at €1350 and is expected to be available from early May.
