Fans Rejoice as Russian Figure Skater Roman Kostomarov Recovers

According to the Russian portal “sportmk.ru,” the figure skating community can finally breathe a sigh of relief as Olympic champion Roman Kostomarov (46) is being transferred from the intensive care unit to a normal hospital ward. This news comes after what has been a tough year for Kostomarov, but it seems his condition is stabilizing significantly.

The road to recovery hasn’t been easy for Kostomarov, who was hospitalized with pneumonia earlier this year. Things then took a turn for the worse, and he found himself in the ICU and later in a coma due to blood poisoning. As a result, parts of his hands and feet had to be amputated. However, he managed to wake up from the coma in early March, but he still needed to be artificially ventilated.

Despite these setbacks, Kostomarov’s choreographer Ilya Averbukh shared some positive news, “I can say that Roman is absolutely conscious, he understands everything, he is ready to fight, ready to move forward.”

The figure skating world has rallied around Kostomarov, with colleagues even dedicating the ice show Russian Challenge to the recovering athlete.

The news of Kostomarov’s recovery has brought happiness and hope to fans and those close to him. Reports state he can now talk to his wife, Oksana Domnina (38), who has been a great support system for him throughout this difficult time. In order to stay by his side, Domnina has gone to great lengths, even resorting to putting on a nurse’s outfit to avoid attracting attention when visiting him at the hospital.

After enduring such hardship, it’s wonderful to hear that Kostomarov is making progress on the road to recovery. Fans around the world will continue to root for him and celebrate each milestone on his journey.
