Mathias, 37, who admitted to the murder of his 78-year-old mother Agnès last Wednesday on Milton Street in Paris, will likely never be tried and will spend a large part of his life at the Paul-Guiraud hospital in Villejuif, Val-de-Marne. He was transferred directly from the police psychiatric infirmary to this specialized unit for the treatment of particularly dangerous mentally ill patients.
This decision does not come as a surprise due to the suspect’s psychiatric history. Last year, he had already spent a long time in the hospital following a suicide attempt. On Wednesday morning, he called the police himself, informing them that he had just killed a woman. He calmly waited for them to come and get him.
Upon their arrival, he gave an incoherent speech, explaining that he thought it was his mother and then realized it wasn’t. He made equally nonsensical statements. The only certainty is that he entered his mother’s house with the set of keys he had, strangled her, and then hit her with a chair and a lamp.
The suspect was immediately placed in custody. However, that same evening, a doctor determined that his health condition was not compatible with this measure. He was therefore transferred to the psychiatric infirmary. He was later examined by other doctors. Finally, the decision was made to intern him in Villejuif on Friday.
