Paris: Iranian Consulate Set on Fire, 60-Year-Old Suspect Arrested

On Sunday, September 10, 2023, the Parisian judicial police arrested a man of Iranian origin suspected of setting fire to the Iranian consulate in Paris. According to information from Le Parisien, the criminal act took place on Saturday, September 9th in the morning, without causing any injuries. The man is being brought before immediate trial today.

The suspect, a French citizen of Iranian origin, was arrested on Sunday, September 10, 2023, in the afternoon. He is suspected of voluntary arson committed on September 9th at 6:40 am in front of the Iranian consulate in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. Born in Tehran, Iran in 1963, the man, who was still in custody a few hours ago, is being brought before immediate trial, as confirmed by the Parisian prosecutor’s office.

Saturday morning, firefighters and police arrived at the scene due to a fire that had broken out in front of the Iranian consulate. The fire spread to the facade and the gate of the consulate, but was quickly brought under control by the firefighters, without causing any injuries.

Initially, a criminal track was favored and investigators suspected a Molotov cocktail throw. However, the surveillance footage revealed a flaming tire thrown by the suspect who fled in a car immediately after the incident.
