Paris 2024: Police and intelligence services will be ready assures Darmanin

The police, gendarmerie, and French intelligence services “will be ready” to ensure security at the Olympics (July 26-August 11) and Paralympics (August 28-September 8) in Paris this summer, stated Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin on Monday during a visit to Roubaix, after raising the Vigipirate security alert to its highest level.

“France, because it upholds universal values, advocates for secularism (…) is particularly threatened, especially during these extraordinary events that will be the Olympic Games,” emphasized the minister, three days after the Moscow attack claimed by the Islamic State. “The French police, gendarmes, prefects, intelligence services, will be ready,” he added. “We have an extremely effective intelligence system. We prevent attacks from happening almost every month.”

The minister announced a meeting on Thursday morning at the Directorate General of Internal Security (DGSI) with “all intelligence stakeholders” to “draw all the consequences from the Moscow attack.”
