Hansi Behrendt was 68 years old: drummer of the NDW cult band Ideal died

The music industry is mourning the loss of Hans-Joachim Behrendt, the ideal drummer, who passed away in Berlin on Monday at the age of 68. His widow confirmed the news that has left many fans devastated.

Known by his stage name “Hansi”, Behrendt was part of the highly successful German band, Ideal. The group was at its peak during the New German Wave era and released hits like “Blaue Augen” and “Berlin”. The band consisted of Annette Humpe as the lead singer, Frank Jürgen Krüger, who passed away in 2007, Behrendt, and bassist Ernst Ulrich Deuker. Ideal was formed in 1980 and disbanded in 1983.

Prior to joining Ideal, Behrendt had played with Volker Kriegels in the Mild Maniac Orchestra and the Neonbabies. It was during this period that he formed a close friendship with Humpe and Kruger that eventually led to the creation of Ideal.

Aside from Ideal, Behrendt participated in several solo projects. However, he slowly withdrew from the music industry and began a new career as a building contractor.

In a tribute on the RBB station Radioeins, Anette Humpe described Behrendt as an excellent drummer and a trusted confidante. She reminisced about his unique style that made him stand out, his unmatched timing, and his percussive grooves.

Behrendt’s departure has left a void in the music industry. Fans and colleagues remembered him for his exceptional skill and his contributions to the world of music. Although he may no longer be present, his music will continue to inspire generations to come.
