Several individuals who made anti-Semitic remarks were arrested in Paris over the weekend. On Sunday, October 8, 2023, the first arrest took place around 1:50 PM. A man who made anti-Semitic remarks near a Jewish school in the 19th arrondissement was taken into custody. According to Le Parisien, he allegedly attempted to enter the school while mentioning a “bomb.” Contrary to what was circulated on social media, the individual was not carrying knives.
Shortly after, in the 16th arrondissement, another man was arrested for the same reason in front of a synagogue. The individual allegedly shouted, “Dirty Jews, 150 deaths are not enough,” again as reported by Le Parisien. The night of October 8 to 9, 2023, four individuals, presumably intoxicated, made anti-Semitic insults on the Iéna bridge.
“The Paris prosecutor’s office will determine the charges and the appropriate steps to be taken based on the specific elements reported in each particular case,” stated the Paris prosecutor’s office. Since the attack in Israel, the Ministry of the Interior has increased security in front of synagogues and Jewish community sites across France.
