Firmware Update Causes Malfunction in HP OfficeJet Multifunction Printers

HP OfficeJet: Malfunctioning firmware update paralyzes some multifunction printers

Hardware manufacturer Hewlett-Packard (HP) has faced issues with a faulty update for the firmware of its OfficeJet models, which has led to the devices becoming unresponsive. The update has caused the display on these devices to only show a “blue screen” with an error code. The company confirmed the issue, but has yet to release an official statement. Reports suggest that HP’s update, which has been deployed since the beginning of May, has rendered numerous models of the OfficeJet Pro 902x series unresponsive.

Users of affected devices report that they are unable to use them, and factory resetting is not possible. Multiple customers have admitted to trying to troubleshoot the problem to no avail. HP has confirmed the issue, but says it is limited to just a few users of the OfficeJet 9020e model. However, customers worldwide have come forward to report the problem, with devices unable to start and only displaying the error code.

The issue is not, as of yet, fixable, and HP’s customer service has advised users to disconnect their devices from the internet. Troubleshooting is not yet possible, and it remains unknown how long it will take for HP to resolve the issue. Some customers have been told that sending their device to HP is the only possible fix, while others claim that the company is offering to send out replacement devices.

Users have reported the issue to the HP support discussion forum. Initially, employees promised a solution by May 16, but this date has passed without any solution. HP has not yet confirmed whether faulty update distribution has ceased.

The malfunctioning update has affected the following models: HP OfficeJet Pro 9022e, HP OfficeJet Pro 9025e, HP OfficeJet Pro 9020e All-in-One, and HP OfficeJet Pro 9025e All-in-One Printer models. If you own one of these models, it is best to disconnect your device from the internet. If your device has already been affected, contact HP support.
