Google is reportedly planning to release its own foldable mobile phone, according to US news site CNBC. The device will be called the Pixel Fold and is expected to be announced at the Google I/O conference in May. Google is expected to market the phone based on its particularly robust hinge, and the Pixel Fold is due to be released this summer and expected to cost more than $1,700.
According to CNBC, the Pixel Fold will have a 5.8-inch outer screen and a 7.6-inch screen when opened up. It will be approximately the same size as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, but will be slightly heavier at 280 grams. The Pixel Fold is also expected to offer a stronger battery than comparable models thanks to the Tensor G2, which it will be powered by.
Foldable phones are becoming increasingly common, with most major manufacturers offering such devices. Apple and Google are notable exceptions, but with the Pixel Fold, Google could bring foldable phones closer to the mainstream.
Currently, foldable phone options are still limited in Germany, with many Chinese manufacturers not releasing their foldable devices in the country. However, Samsung and Motorola (Lenovo) models are available.
