The Steve Jobs Archive, which was launched in September 2022 with the blessing and initiative of Laurene Powell Jobs, has released its first major publication. Titled “Make Something Wonderful: Steve Jobs in his own words”, the free book is available in various digital formats and can be read directly on the web.
The curated collection comprises Jobs’ speeches, interviews, and letters spread across almost 320 pages, supplemented by numerous photos, many of which were previously unpublished. The book covers Jobs’ childhood, the founding and expulsion of Apple, his time at Pixar and NeXT, and finally, his return to the company where it all began.
“Make Something Wonderful” is split into three sections, starting from Jobs’ childhood and adolescence, then delving into the years from 1976 to 1985, followed by 1985 to 1996, and, finally, the period from 1996 to 2011. An index of key events in Jobs’ life is also made available.
The book opens with a picture of a young “little Steve” on a bicycle, while the last picture shows his resignation letter from August 2011. Jobs passed away aged 56 on October 5, 2011.
Laurene Powell Jobs provided an introduction to “Make Something Wonderful”. The Steve Jobs Archive was officially authorized to collect artifacts, interviews, and other materials related to Jobs’ life and digitally process them. A senior historian will oversee the process. There will also be longer conversations with individuals who have worked with Jobs, including Tim Cook and Jony Ive.
Besides the book, a smaller digital exhibition revolving around Jobs’ motivational methods is accessible online. Further “digital exhibits” on the co-founder’s life and even fellowships are planned for the future, though details have not yet been disclosed.
