Dirk Nowitzki Set to Enter Basketball Hall of Fame

Dirk Nowitzki to be Inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame

Basketball legend Dirk Nowitzki is set for a spot in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. According to ESPN NBA pundit Adrian Wojnarowski, the formal announcement is expected to be made during the NCAA Final Four this weekend. Nowitzki’s 21 seasons with the Dallas Mavericks include leading the team to its first franchise championship in 2011, earning MVP honors in 2007, and being chosen as a 14-time All-Star.

The German forward will reportedly be inducted in the class of 2023, along with other former players such as Dwayne Wade, Pau Gasol, Tony Parker, Becky Hammon, and former coach Gregg Popovich. This marks Nowitzki’s first year of eligibility, following his retirement in 2019.

Nowitzki paved the way for other basketball players of his size and from Europe, shining in the American league. In December 2019, the Mavs honored him with a permanent statue outside the American Airlines Center. The statue’s base reads, “Loyalty never fades,” describing Nowitzki’s two decades in Dallas.

As Nowitzki prepares for his induction into the Hall of Fame, he continues to give back to the basketball community. He shared his desire to help current Mavericks player, Luca Doncic, achieve a legendary career.
