Creating a Customizable Breadboard: An Online Experiment

Experimental set: building a modular breadboard | hot online

Innovative Modular Breadboard System

The traditional breadboard has been a staple in electronics hobbyist circles for years, but often lacks the more advanced features and capabilities found in more expensive experimental sets. A solution can be to buy a more advanced set, but they usually come with unwanted features resulting in a waste of money, or are only sold to institutions such as schools or universities. This led to an idea to build a modular breadboard system where components can be easily swapped out.

The design is based on a sheet of plywood with cutouts for the breadboards to sit in, surrounded by cutouts to fit various interchangeable modules. The idea is to have all modules the same width, and a finished power supply module was used as a template for size. A larger format was also planned to allow for bigger modules. This design allows for full customization and flexibility depending on project requirements.

The smaller format already has various modules readily available for purchase, ranging from power supplies to function generators and motor drivers. But even more exciting is the possibility to design and build custom modules, tailored to specific needs. The base plate material can also be changed to suit the user’s preference.

While this may seem like a daunting project, it’s worth the effort for the level of customization and capability gained. With the right materials and knowledge, it’s possible to create a comprehensive experimental system tailored precisely to individual needs.
