BeReal Adds Spotify Integration for More Authentic Social Media Experience

Social Media: BeReal integrates Spotify

BeReal, the French social media app, has announced that it has secured support from music streaming platform, Spotify. As part of this partnership, US users will be able to incorporate Spotify elements directly into BeReal posts. This will provide users with the opportunity to display what they are currently listening to, with the post automatically integrating the current song if Spotify is running on the mobile device. Other users will be able to play a preview of the song directly from BeReal, providing a more personalized and interactive experience for users.

To embed Spotify into BeReal, users need to link their BeReal account to their Spotify account via the settings in the app. In a statement, Spotify said that by combining BeReal with Spotify, we’re adding another layer of authentic customization to BeReal.

BeReal was launched in 2020 and aims to focus on users’ everyday experiences, with each user asked to post once a day during a two-minute random window. The app is unique in that users are unable to select when they post, and pictures cannot be edited. The aim is to provide a more genuine and authentic glimpse into users’ everyday lives. However, BeReal is struggling to maintain its user base, with Apptopia figures suggesting that user numbers have dropped significantly from 15 million users in October 2020, to just 6 million in March 2021.

Despite this, BeReal continues to be viewed as a significant social media app and has attracted imitators, including TikTok. With the support of Spotify, BeReal is looking to reinvent itself and offer users a more interactive and personalized experience. While the partnership is currently only available in the US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, and Australia, other markets are expected to be added in the future.
