Amazon Boosts Pay for Logistics Workers – hot online

Amazon: Pay rise for logistics workers | hot online

US online retailer Amazon is planning to increase salaries for logistics employees in Germany. The starting wages will rise to 14 euros per hour “and upwards,” up from the current rate of around 13 euros per hour. Specialists and group leaders may earn 20 euros per hour and more. The wage increase is expected to take effect in September 2023. Amazon has expressed its intention to discuss this proposal with the relevant works councils. It should be noted that wages may vary slightly depending on the region.

In addition to the salary increase, Amazon offers other benefits to its employees. Full-time logistics employees without previous qualifications could earn an average wage of 37,000 euros after two years of service, including winter and summer bonuses. Automatic salary increases are also provided after 12 and 24 months of service. The company also highlights additional perks such as a free Germany ticket, company pension scheme, and free life and disability insurance.

However, the Verdi union is demanding a collective agreement with Amazon. The planned increase in starting wages is seen as a positive step by the union, but they will continue to push for a collective agreement. Amazon has long rejected such agreements and has been in dispute with Verdi for years. A recent warning strike took place in Leipzig, with 300 colleagues participating since Monday. Verdi asserts that they will continue to exert pressure until a collective agreement is reached.

Overall, Amazon’s decision to increase salaries for logistics employees in Germany reflects the ongoing trend of salary increases in the country. While the wage increase is seen as a positive development, the issues between Amazon and Verdi regarding collective agreements remain unresolved.
