AMD and Intel have released new low-end CPUs that promise to deliver a significant boost in performance for less expensive laptops. Florian Müssig tested the first two notebooks with these CPUs. The HP 17 is priced at 550 euros and is equipped with the new AMD Ryzen 3 7320U, while Intel’s Core i3-N305, which boasts 8 cores, is installed in the Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14, which costs 650 euros. Although the performance level of the new CPUs is adequate, both notebooks could still have potential for improvement.

For those who are frustrated with poor WiFi coverage in their homes, mesh systems that bring fast internet speeds to every corner of the house with multiple nodes may be the solution. Ernst Ahlers tested seven systems from AVM (Fritzbox), D-Link, and TP-Link, among others, and gives tips on how to optimize the nodes in the apartment.

When it comes to remote PC help, TeamViewer and AnyDesk are popular remote maintenance programs, but they can be annoying with their advertising for the paid versions, and there may be trust issues when sending personal data via their servers. Niklas Dierking and Jan Schüßler looked at alternatives such as MeshCentral, Remotely, and RustDesk, which are open source and can be installed on one’s own server. Niklas has also created Docker containers for RustDesk and MeshCentral that make the installation process more convenient.
