Ukraine: EU condemns “Russia’s contempt for civilian life”

Following the attack on a school used as a shelter in Luhansk, the EU “will support efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice”, said Josep Borrell.

The European Union showed this Sunday (05.08.2022) its dismay at Russia’s “blatant disregard” for the lives of civilians shown by attacking a school in Ukraine used as a refuge in the Lugansk region, in the east of the country.

The EU27 are “dismayed by the Russian airstrike on a school building in Belogorovka, Luhansk region, in which many children are reported to have died,” said the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, on his official account at Twitter.

“The EU condemns Russia’s blatant disregard for civilian life and will support efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice,” added the head of European diplomacy.

The school center collapsed after the attack and 30 people could be rescued, after which the regional governor of Lugansk, Serhiy Gaidai, maintained in a message through Telegram that the 60 people who are buried are probably dead.
