The director of District 9 and Elysium turns to video games and presents his first title

Off the Grid. This is the name of Neil Blomkamp’s first major project in the video game industry. The director of District 9, Elysium and Chappie opens with a third person shooter with a triple A budget and format battle royale. With that description, many will already be thinking that it is “another generic multiplayer FPS”, but its creators, the guys from Gunzilla Games, have emphasized that it will be quite the opposite. According to them, Off the Grid “will evolve the genre through a strong emphasis on narrative, directed by Neil Blomkamp himself”.

Waiting to see how both concepts (battle royale and narrative) marry, Off the Grid has also announced that the games will be up to 150 players and that there will be PvP and PvE modes. The game will run on Unreal Engine 5, it is scheduled for 2023 and it even has confirmed platforms: PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. We leave you with a first and very brief teaser trailer:

Neil Blomkamp: Alien 5, video games and horror

This first collaboration of Neil Blomkamp with the world of video games comes after a last film, Demonic, which already reminded Silent Hill, The Medium and other titles in the sector. A horror film that he dared to mix technology, science fiction and demons from beyond. It must be admitted that well, what is said well, did not go well (to show his 3.6 and FilmAffinity), so let’s knock on wood and hope that Off the Grid has a better result. Neil Blomkamp has shown plenty of talent in the past and we still regret how Alien 5 was canceled, from which details continue to come out from time to time that make it impossible to heal the wound.
