Israel commands new operation and restrictions in West Bank, reports one dead

Israeli authorities announced security measures and mobility restrictions to tighten control of the Jenin area, where tensions have escalated over deadly attacks in recent weeks.

The Israeli authorities have imposed movement restrictions in the Jenin area, in the north of the occupied West Bank, while carrying out a new operation this Sunday (04.10.2022) and continuing with arrest operations in the area, where the two came from. perpetrators of the last two deadly attacks in Israel.

The COGAT, the Israeli military body that manages civil and administrative affairs in the occupied Palestinian territories, announced last night “the complete cessation of the passage of pedestrians and vehicles to and from Jenin” through two military checkpoints in the area.

It also banned merchants and businessmen from the area with entry authorization from entering Israel and suspended the 5,000 permits issued to Palestinians from the area to visit relatives living in Israeli territory.

On the other hand, COGAT will continue to allow the movement of Palestinian workers employed in Israel, as well as “other civilian routines, while controls at crossings are intensified.”

As a result of this Sunday’s operation, a Palestinian woman was shot dead by Israeli soldiers in the south of the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Ministry of Health reported.

According to the ministry, the woman succumbed to her injuries after being shot by Israeli soldiers near Husan. The Israeli army confirmed it had opened fire on the woman, saying she was “suspiciously” approaching the soldiers despite “warning shots” to deter her.

All this occurs amid an escalation of tension in the region after four attacks in Israel in just over two weeks that left fourteen dead.
