The EU also sanctions the daughters of Vladimir Putin

The European Union imposed this Friday (04.08.2022) sanctions against more than 200 people, including the two adult daughters of Russian President Vladimir Putin, and against several oligarchs close to the president, within the framework of measures adopted by the invasion of Ukraine .

Maria Vorontsova and Katerina Tikhonova, born respectively in 1985 and 1986, have already been targeted by sanctions in the United States and the United Kingdom. The list, published in the Official Gazette of the EU, includes another 217 individuals and 18 companies with their directors, whose assets will be blocked and entry into the 27 countries of the bloc will be prohibited.

Maria Vorontsova is sanctioned for her role in Nomenko, a company for investment projects in the health sector, which provides “substantial sources of income” to the Russian government, according to the Official Gazette. Her sister Katerina Tikhonova runs a fund to help young scientists, created by companies whose leaders “are members of the circle of oligarchs close” to Putin. (afp)
