VIDEO – End clap for the ephemeral work of Christo, withdrawn from the Arc de Triomphe

The Arc de Triomphe will soon regain its usual appearance. Since this Monday morning, the ephemeral work of Christo which had covered the famous Parisian monument for three weeks has been dismantled, an operation which should last several weeks.

A childhood dream of the artist who died in May 2020 and his wife Jeanne-Claude, the work required preparation in July, before its presentation on September 18. It required 25,000 square meters of recyclable blue silver polypropylene fabric, held by 3000 meters of red rope. The spectacular packaging had been seen by hundreds of thousands of visitors.

According to France 3, the dismantling operations must be completed before the commemorations of November 11. The fabric that was used to wrap the Arc de Triomphe, as well as the ropes, must be recycled in Germany.

At a cost of 14 million euros, the project was entirely self-financed, without public subsidy, thanks to the sale of original works by Christo.
