Antisemitic acts are on the rise in Paris and the surrounding areas. This is what Laurent Nunez, the prefect of police in Paris, stated on BFMTV-RMC on Thursday, November 16.
“On the Paris metropolitan area, Paris and the three departments of the petite couronne, last night (Wednesday, November 15), there were 375 antisemitic acts,” since October 7th. The prefect of police in Paris stated that these acts have “various forms and varieties.”
“We are surpassing the numbers of a normal year… It is undeniably a significant wave,” he added.
In detail, Laurent Nunez mentioned “tags, threats, insults,” which represent three-quarters of these antisemitic acts. In addition to these, there are “more serious acts” such as intentional assaults, property damage “beyond the tags.”
The prefect of police in Paris clarified that out of these 375 antisemitic acts, only 180 complaints have been filed.
“This can be police reports, it can be reports… and for the most serious acts, there are complaints. It can also be detections on social networks,” he explained.
In total, 130 people have been arrested.
