Emmy Awards 2021: harvest of awards for “The Crown” and “Ted Lasso”

Behind the red carpet and the formal costumes, flashy outfits, Netflix was playing big Sunday, September 19 in Los Angeles during the Emmy Awards ceremony, queen competition, of the same order as the Oscars for television series. Since its launch in 2007, the video-on-demand platform has chained up nominations but has so far never won an Emmy Award, in the most prestigious categories (drama, comedy or limited series).

It is now done, his series “The Crown”, which retraces in a romanticized way the life of the British royal family, having triumphed this year by winning the awards for best dramatic series, for best actor for Josh O’Connor ( for her role of Prince Charles) and Best Actress for Olivia Colman (who plays Queen Elizabeth II). Earlier in the evening, the series also won the awards for screenplay, directing and two supporting roles: Gillian Anderson (who plays Margaret Thatcher) and Tobias Menzies (playing Prince Philip).

After a worldwide success, exploding registrations to chess clubs, another Netflix production “The Lady’s Game”, which features a tormented young chess prodigy, won the Emmy Award for best limited series, acknowledging the platform’s great victory for this 2021 edition.

Another highlight of the evening, producer RuPaul, host of the televised drag-queens contest took home his 11th award beating other nominees, including “The Voice” or “Top Chef” and “Nailed It!” in the “Competition” category. He thus became the black artist who won the most statuettes at the Emmy Awards thanks to a 13th season of his show.
