After 15 years of absence, the Fugees are reforming for a world tour which will pass through Paris in December

They marked a generation with the album The Score, released in 1996. And it is to celebrate the 25th anniversary of this record, which has sold over 6 million copies, that the Fugees have decided to come together for a world tour which will begin next November. She will not forget France since Wyclef Jean, Lauryn Hill and Pras Michel will be on stage at Paris La Défense Arena on December 4.

A group with a whirlwind trajectory

Formed in South Orange, the Fugees were born from the meeting between Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel, two childhood friends of Haitian origin, and the singer Lauryn Hill, native of New Jersey. The name of the group, which refers to Haitian refugees, illustrates the political connotation of their music, a mix of hip-hop, soul music and reggae.

After a first opus with mixed success in 1994, they were a hit two years later The Score which notably contains the famous “Killing me Softly”, a remake of the song by Lori Lieberman, popularized by Roberta Flack in the seventies. After winning two Grammy Awards in 1997, the trio split up to devote themselves to personal projects.

Lauryn Hill will then meet a phenomenal success with the album The Miseduction of Lauryn Hill, a neo-soul classic that has sold over 20 million copies, with five Grammy Awards up for grabs. Suffering from bipolar disorder, the singer will disappear from radar for many years while Wyclef Jean connects the records, with more or less success like the hit “911” with Mary J. Blige. Pras Michel has made himself much more discreet.

The Fugees met for the first time in 2005 for a series of concerts. Despite the recording of several unreleased tracks, the tensions between the three musicians had put an end to their collaboration. Have they finally reconciled? In 2007, Pras Michel declared that there was “more likely to see Bin Laden and Bush talk about foreign policy in a Starbuck than to see the Fugees get together“.
