A woman drove 120 km from Normandy to Paris to repatriate her deceased mother’s body in order to save on funeral transportation costs. The Parisian revealed the disturbing story of how the woman transported her mother’s body in her car to avoid paying for funeral services.
The 93-year-old victim passed away at her family’s second home in Mesnils-sur-Iton. Instead of contacting funeral services to take care of the body and repatriate it to the capital, the daughter chose to bring her mother back herself and then called the police to report the death once she arrived in the evening.
She described her journey to the police over the phone, explaining that she “cleaned the area” and placed her mother “on the passenger seat to avoid transportation costs.” She then drove 120 km from Normandy to Paris.
The Parisian reports that the deceased’s daughter and grandson were questioned as witnesses by the police, as it is prohibited to transport the body of a deceased person in a vehicle without a refrigerated trunk or separated from the driver’s seat.
At the same time, the 93-year-old’s body was transferred to the Paris Forensic Institute for further examination. The residence in Normandy where the victim died was inspected by the gendarmes of the Mesnils-sur-Iton brigade, and the Prosecutor’s Office of Evreux was informed. However, no investigation has been launched yet, although one may be initiated if the forensic examinations raise suspicions.
