Education: The Rector of the Academy of Paris Announces His Resignation

Christophe Kerrero has addressed the staff of the Paris academy for the last time as rector, inviting them to never lose hope. In a letter announcing his departure from his position, Kerrero expresses his gratitude to his colleagues and subordinates for their dedication to helping every child reach their potential.

Kerrero, a former inspector general of the National Education, criticizes the “social reproduction” that characterizes the education system, particularly in Paris. He believes that there has been progress in reforming the assignment to secondary school, changing recruitment at prestigious schools, and restructuring the map of courses and schools to promote greater social and academic diversity.

Appointed to his position in 2020, Christophe Kerrero had previously served as the deputy director general of the Paris region, in charge of high schools, and as director of cabinet for the Minister of National Education, Jean-Michel Blanquer.

The Ministry of National Education acknowledges and thanks Christophe Kerrero for his work and dedication to the education system. They confirm their support for the measures taken by the Paris rector to promote social and academic diversity, especially in light of the announcement of the closure of 183 classes in the capital.

The decision to close some classes is seen as necessary in order to create new classes for teacher training due to the shortage of teachers. The Ministry supports a moratorium on these closures and is committed to further supporting the social initiatives of the rector’s office.
