Re-elected officials take oath of office

Edgar County started a new fiscal year today, and the first order of business was swearing in the veteran office holders who were re-elected in November.
Judge Steven L. Garst administered the oath of office to: Karen Halloran, Edgar County Circuit Clerk; Pete Templeton, Edgar County Coroner; Matt Sullivan, Edgar County State’s Attorney; Kevin Trogdon, Edgar County Board, District 3; Verlin D. Funkhouser, Edgar County Board, District 6; and Jeff Poynter, Edgar County Board, District 7.
After each office holder took the oath, the county board held a brief reorganization meeting. No changes occurred following the reorganization portion of the meeting.
Jim Keller was re-elected to serve as board chairman for a two-year term. This will be Keller’s third term as board chairman.
Board committees for the next two years also remained unchanged.
•Road and Bridge Committee will be chaired by Ben Jenness with Funkhouser and Trogdon as committee members;
•Motor Fuel Tax Committee will be chaired by Dan Winans with Monte Spillman and Poynter as committee members;
•Sheriff Committee will be chaired by Funkhouser with Spillman and Poynter as committee members:
•Insurance Committee will be chaired by Spillman with Jenness and Trogdon as committee members;
•County Offices will be chaired by Trogdon with Winans and Poynter as committee members;
•Airport, County Farm and Soil Survey Committee will be chaired by Trogdon with Funkhouser and Poynter as committee members;
•Emergency Services and Disaster Committee will be chaired by Funkhouser with Jenness and Winans as committee members;
•Rabies Control (Animal Shelter) Committee will be chaired by Jenness with Trogdon and Poynter as committee members;
•Claims-Subdivisions-Judiciary Committee will be chaired by Spillman with Trogdon and Winans as committee members;
•Public Buildings Committee (courthouse, grounds, annex, county highway, jail and animal shelter) will be chaired by Jenness with Winans and Trogdon as committee members;
•Solid Waste Planning Committee will be chaired by Poynter with Jenness and Winans as committee members;
•Budget/Payroll and Finance will be chaired by Keller and Funkhouser and all board members serve on the committee.
