Vermilion – The Village Clipper is the newest hair salon in Vermilion.
While working in a local factory, Dawn Maynard often heard co-workers complaining about having a hard time getting a hair cut appointment. This made Maynard want to go back to cutting hair.
A 1995 graduate of Concept College of Cosmetology in Champaign, Maynard has 13 years experience as a beautician. She worked at Custom Cuts in Champaign before marrying a Paris man and moving to the area.
She took the job at the local factory, but kept cutting hair on the side.
“It’s something I thoroughly enjoy doing,” said Maynard.
She said she lucked out finding an inexpensive building in Vermilion to open her new shop.
She shares her low overhead with her customers by offering low prices. She also gives each fifth hair cut free, either for an entire family or for an individual.
Maynard does shampoo and cuts for the whole family.
She does not offer dye jobs or other chemical services. This allows her more time to concentrate on the cuts.
“I’m not rushed by any means,” she said.
She encourages walk-ins and will take after hours appointments to accommodate her customers needs.
“My whole thing is quick service,” she said.
Maynard also has a tanning bed on site and if the need arises, she has the capacity to add another bed. She noted it is usually easy to get in for a tanning appointment, and often times walk-ins can get right in.
The Village Clipper is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Other appointments are also available.
For more information or to make an appointment, call 217-275-3808. Walk-ins are always welcome.
