Redbirds baseball loses opener to Charleston, 13-1

CHARLESTON – The Mayo Redbirds baseball team lost their season-opener to Charleston Monday, 13-1 in five innings.
The Redbirds sat Charleston batters down in order in the first inning, but then gave up five runs in the second on five errors. Charleston added seven more runs in the fourth inning, to take a 13-0 lead.
Mayo’s Hawkins scored his team’s only run of the game in the fifth inning on a Temples double, before Charleston took the 10-run rule win after the third out.
The Mayo Redbirds baseball team will travel to Hutsonville today (Thursday) for a 4:30 p.m. game.
